We are looking for a competent Construction Worker to work on buildings, roads and other construction projects. You will be the one to help the plans of architects and engineers come to life and become full and solid structures.
Experience in working on relevant projects and using equipment is essential. You must have physical strength, endurance and work well with your hands. Being good in collaboration and following instructions and safety rules, are also important.Responsible for assisting tradesman on construction sites such as carpenters, bricklayers, demolition experts, drywallers, cement finishers, and roofers. Unloads and loads materials, erects concrete forms and ramps, mix and pour materials such as concrete, and assists in drilling and blasting.
There are usually no specific educational requirements for entry level construction workers. Apprentice laborers are often expected to have a high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.). If you plan to pursue construction, classes in English, math, physics, shop and welding can come in handy; many high schools and community colleges offer these courses.Balance, depth-perception and eye-hand coordination are all critical to keep you steady on high beams and your fingers clear of chop saws.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist construction site workers in erecting structures and demolition.
- Unload and load construction materials.
- Distribute materials.
- Erect concrete forms and scaffolding.
- Drill and blast into earth and rock.
- Mix and pour concrete and asphalt.
- Level concrete and earth using trowels and shovels.
- Remove debris.
- Clean up spills and remove hazardous material.
- Direct and control traffic.
- Erect traffic control signs.
- Assist heavy equipment operators to secure special attachments to equipment.
- Signal operators to guide them in moving equipment and provide assistance.
- Oil and grease hoists.
- Operate pneumatic hammers, vibrators and tampers.
- Assist in demolishing buildings using explosives
